BLog Eight

I chose to review "What I Think" by Jason H., I agree with what Jason says in his blog about the bailout for the motor companies. I do not however think he did a very good job of getting his point across. If you are trying to sway an audience you need to do the research so that you have facts to back up your claims. I have written a "rant" blog myself before so I have to cut him some slack. The motor companies need to try to settle without being bailed out, but Jason we must continue to buy American no matter how inferior you may feel they are. We have enough of our money leaving the country. I am afraid if the companies are bailed out, they will just repeat the past and in a few years we will be back here again. Let them start by closing some of the many, many, many dealerships. Work together and combine forces to save themselves, no more corporate jets, no more million dollar bonus. Jason hit it on the head when he said they got themselves into this let them get out on their own.

Blog Seven Assignment

Our U.S. Government is complicated in many ways. Although necessary to a degree I feel that many issues should not be controlled by our government. Abortion is a personal choice there are many different circumstances that may cause some one to make that decision and in my opinion it not the governments business what those reasons are. Second, I was reading a fellow class mates blog about the governments say in gay marriage, again a personal decision and not the place of the government to say yea or ney. I guess my biggest pet peeve about our government is the war. I agreed with it in the beginning because of 911, but enough is enough. Our economy is falling apart we are in a recession yet we continue to pour money into a war that not seem to be doing much more than killing our soldiers. I could see it if we were still under constant threat and maybe we are, the only information we have is what the media is allowed to report which I bet is not near the entire story. As I said before I agree we need some type of government system but I do not agree with the system being involved in what I consider private, personal issues. Bring the troops home and lets start recovering together.

Blog Stage Six:

I decided to start blog six by criticising my own blog five. It was not my best work, but in my defense my 6 year old nephew and 3 year old niece were at my feet throughout.
Okay I know poor planning and all that stuff. My blog was short and seemed more like a rant, no thought required. My spelling was awful and for anyone who has read it, sorry it was hard to read. The good news is its an easy target for you guys to complete blog six. Good Luck!
Now unfortunately I have to also critique a fellow classmates blog. I chose All Things Political. I chose this blog because after viewing his profile I noticed his age, since I am only 18 I thought it would be an interesting view and I was right. I felt like the blog was well written. He had knowledge of the subject and facts to back it up. His writing was direct in spots and opinionated and witty in others. My favorite part was when he kindly points out that at the time of the 2004 election polls had President Bush rated very high in all areas of moral standards, people trusted him. The same polls taken recentely do not reflect the publics trust. Over all a very good blog, he started with a question made a point of two and ended with placing responsibility for the answer right where it belongs, with the Rebublicans.

Blog Stage Five

Our U.S. Government, Where do I start? It is a mess, I guess if you compare it to other countries we may not have it too bad. Our economy is in dispare and people seem to think that electing a democrat is the answer, I am not saying its not but I think we are way past that. I really think that things have never recovered from 911. First we have the devestation of 911 and then we go to war, bomb them and then help them rebuild? Enough already we need the dollors here in our own country. Our government has spent way too much time and money on this effort, lets bring our troops home and let them start protecting the borders. We could also try to cut back on all of the government assistance we hand out so freely. I realize there are people who truly need the help but there are an equall amount that do not need the help but know how to work the ridiculas system we currently have in place. We have "citizens" that drive nice cars, carry cell phone and have enough jewelry to cover the queen, but we as tax payers pay for their food, glasses, dental and medical care. We are sinking, the U.S. was once admired for their strong, well developed and democratic ways. Now we are becoming a laughing stock. As I said I am not sure that electing a democrat is the answer, guess we will see.

Stage Four Blog Assignment

http://coldfury.com

This was a fun assignment. Blogs are more interesting to read than stale news articles. Love the Zombie Reagan on the left! The blog I looked at was Mike's Who's to Blame? He seems to be well informed about what he is talking about. As far as his intended audience, I am not real sure at this point. Mike seems to just lay it out there and fellow blogger Noel takes it from there. Noel is no doubt voting for McCain. His target audience is a little more clear, he is speaking to Barack Obama supporters. His arguments are many, Obama is guilty by association as Noel notes. He states that Obama is a man who knows every terrorist, bomber, hate-preacher, communist, slumlord, fraudster and on and on it goes. I think this clears up the argument he is voicing. The evidence to back this up is well noted as well, he proceeds to mention Obama's association with Tony Rezko "the slumlord" who qualified for farm subsidies by growing cattle. Obama spent two decades as a member of a church where the pastor preached racial separatism. He has several other facts to back up his argument.

Okay Mike picks it backup from here. He is reaching out to McCain fans. Wow he has some strong opinions. I really like the title of his entry on Wednesday October8th "Those lights at the end of the tunnel area a train", referring to the debate where McCain "did nothing he needed to do"

Everyone participating in this blog seemed passionate well informed and definitely opinionated. Really enjoyed it.

Hope every one else enjoys it as well!

Stage Three Blog Assignment

I really enjoyed this assignment, because we had to read an editorial rather than a news article. Opinions run wild when allowed. I believe in this article the intended audience was the taxpayer. The author seems to be stirring up controversy among the general public, not being shy about his own opinions. He makes a very stern case stating facts and offering his own charm and wit. His claim appears to be that the bailout will not benefit taxpayers as claimed by the government. The article reviews the proposed $700 billion bailout. The author proceeds to explain what little reason we have to believe that their proposal would protect taxpayers, instead they ( our U.S. Government) said that any eventual loss would be less than the losses we would endure if lending froze up. The author makes a very good point when he states that lawmakers need to examine alternatives. He suggest a proposal that would allow taxpayers to share in the gains from the "bailout revival", along with investors and bankers, now that's a plan! Several other options were explored in this article, all of which made sense, but who knows how reasonable they are. With underlying sarcasm the author kindly points out the several different options and the potential downfall to each. Mentioned as well is the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailout which has help to keep mortgage rates on the low side, and the Federal Reserve relaxing rules on investors who take large stakes in banks. It would appear that everyone is being taken care of but the lone taxpayer.
This article was logical and well written, facts combined with opinion combined with sarcasm. Gotta love freedom of speech, it may be the only thing we have left after our government is finished.
Two especially good points from the article, if taxpayers do not share in the potential profits from the bailout, someone else will, and Congress has more work to do.

The New McCain

The Presidential race has turned into an audition for who can handle a national economic emergency. The New York Times (Politics, The New McCain: More Aggresive and Scripted on the Campaign Trail) states. Since this is my first year to vote I felt it important to study this aspect of U.S. Government. I am in strong favor of Senator John McCain. After reading this article from the NYT, that shows both pre-campaigning and post campaigning Senator McCain, I am nearly certain of my decision.

"Thanks for the question, you little jerk" Mr. McCain said last year to a high school who ask about his age, jokingly saying "Your drafted".

This is one example of the old John McCain the new McCain takes far fewer chances, meaning there are fewer risque' jokes. He appears to be more disciplined. I think that his running mate Gov. Sarah Palin can rivet the crowds, which will balance out the new McCain. To acknowledge the articles somewhat negative view on McCain's promise this and promise that, I really feel like this is both sides Dem. and Rep. it is after all, Politics! There are arguments about news conferences, immigration, taxes, money spent on campaigns and the list goes on, but what it will come down to is who can handle a national economic emergency? To quote Senator John McCain " The American economy is in a crisis!" "It's in a crisis".

I think you should all read this article, because it shows both sides of a very good candidate.
